Lodi Floors, From Railroad-Era Garages to Barrel Rooms
Epoxy flooring in Lodi covers a wider mix of floors than most towns of 66,348 people. In one week we might grind an old single-car garage near downtown, coat a newer attached garage on the edge of town, and lay a textured system in a room where grapes are crushed or barrels are washed. Lodi is our home city, so this page goes further into how its history, weather and work shape the floors we coat here.
A town that grew out of a railroad townsite
Lodi started in 1869, when settlers offered the Central Pacific Railroad 160 acres to put a station here. Surveyors laid out the first streets between Washington and Church and between Locust and Walnut, and the town was first called Mokelumne Station after the nearby river. Voters incorporated the city in 1906, and the Lodi Opera House (1905) and a Carnegie library (1909) went up in those same years.
That long history shows up in the garages. Around the old core we see:
- Detached garages behind the house, often with thin or patched slabs
- Floors that have been painted, sealed or kit-coated more than once
- Low spots where water sits after a winter storm
- Wide cracks from decades of settling
All of that has to come off or be repaired before a coating goes on. We grind down to sound concrete, fill and level the low areas, and treat every crack before the base coat. On some older slabs a solid-color epoxy with a flake broadcast is the most forgiving choice, because the flake hides small variations in the surface.
Hot afternoons, cool nights
Lodi sits about 50 feet above sea level, close enough to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta that summer nights usually fall into the fifties. The average July day runs from about 57°F at night to 91°F in the afternoon, a swing of more than 30 degrees. The record high is 111°F, set on June 15, 1961.
Concrete moves with that swing. It expands in the heat and shrinks overnight, so existing cracks open and close a little every day. We fill cracks that are no longer moving with a rigid filler, and we leave control joints able to flex. Temperature also changes how we schedule. Concrete holds air, and when a slab is warming up it can push that air out through fresh coating and leave pinholes. We plan coats so the slab is steady or cooling while the resin is wet.
Wine country floors
Winegrowing is everywhere in Lodi. The Lodi AVA has more than 113,000 acres of vineyards and over 100 grape varieties, and the area is home to more than 50 wineries. Their floors take a beating. Crush pads and cellar floors see grape must, water, cleaning chemicals, hoses and forklifts. Tasting rooms need a floor that looks good and still handles foot traffic and spilled wine.
For work areas we install thicker, chemical-resistant systems with texture for grip on wet floors, and we plan the coating around drains and the slope that carries water to them. For tasting rooms, offices and retail space, metallic epoxy gives a poured, polished look. We walk the space with you first so the right system goes in each zone.
Food processing and industry
Lodi has a long manufacturing history. Pacific Coast Producers was the city's second-largest employer in the 2021 financial report, with 1,298 workers, and Rich Products and Frank C. Alegre Trucking also made the top ten. Food plants, shops, truck bays and warehouses all need concrete that can be cleaned easily and holds up to wheels. Our Commercial & Winery Floor Epoxy service covers these spaces, and we can schedule work in sections so part of a building stays in use.
Which service fits which Lodi floor
- Older downtown garage: Garage Floor Coating with a full grind, crack repair and leveling first.
- Sun-facing attached garage: Polyaspartic Floor Coating as the topcoat, so the color holds near the door.
- Busy family garage: Epoxy Flake Floors to hide dust, tire marks and small chips.
- Tasting room, office or game room: Metallic Epoxy Floors.
- Backyard patio or pool deck: Patio & Pool Deck Coatings with texture for bare feet and a light color that stays more comfortable in the sun.
- Winery, shop or warehouse: Commercial & Winery Floor Epoxy at a thicker build.
A rainy winter now and then
Most years Lodi gets about 18 inches of rain. Some years bring far more. The wettest year on record was 1983, with 35.4 inches, and January 1911 alone brought 15.01 inches. Water that runs under a garage door or pools on a patio is hard on bare concrete. A sealed floor sheds it, and we can add texture where people walk in with wet shoes. If a floor shows signs of moisture coming up from below, we test it and tell you before quoting a coating.

Lodi Questions
Can you coat a winery crush pad or barrel room in Lodi?
Yes. We use thicker, chemical-resistant systems for wet work areas, with texture for grip and careful work around drains and slopes. We look at how the space is cleaned and what equipment runs on it before we recommend a system, and we can phase the work around harvest if you tell us your schedule.
My garage is behind an older house near downtown. Is the slab too old to coat?
Age alone is rarely the problem. Old paint, patches and low spots are common in Lodi's older garages, and we grind, repair and level them before coating. If a slab is badly broken or wet from below, we will tell you at the estimate and explain what it would need first.
Can you install on a 100-degree day?
We plan around the heat. Summer jobs start early, and we time each coat so the slab is steady or cooling while the resin cures. That helps prevent bubbles and pinholes. On the hottest days we may shift the schedule rather than rush a coat.
